What Benefits Can I Expect From Mobile Window Tint Services?

You can expect to enjoy a multitude of benefits from having your windows tinted. Here on the Sunshine Coast in particular, where our UV ratings are known to reach dangerous levels, window film is as much about style and efficiency as it is about safety and wellbeing. Window film is known to be capable of reducing penetrable UV rays by 99%. This in turn can save you your health by reducing the risk of skin cancer that you may be exposed to in everyday activities, such as driving. It’s estimated that the average person drives about 33km per day, which can greatly contribute to the amount of UV exposure received daily. UV rays will also degrade furniture, vehicle interior trims and dash, flooring, and really anything else in its path. Here on the Sunshine Coast, our car tint near you may be just what you need to elevate your ride. Selecting the right window tint application can dramatically reduce the sun’s damaging effects while also maintaining a stylish appearance.

In the event of an accident or glass breakage, our window film is designed to be shatter-resistant, with the film absorbing the impact and effectively holding together dangerous glass shards, preventing them from flying out. This is especially important when it comes to car window tinting. Without a window film in place to lessen the impact, the risk of injury from a crash is higher. But it’s not just about safety. Broken glass held by tint can act as a great theft deterrent, as it makes it much more difficult for somebody to access the interior of the vehicle. The amount of effort involved and time taken to gain access may even make them give up entirely and leave the scene.

You can enjoy ultimate convenience without the hassle of being without your vehicle in a workshop, by having our Sunshine Coast tinting team come directly to your driveway, home or commercial space to provide mobile tint services. We understand the importance of time management and that many of our clients are juggling many priorities at once; being without their asset not being one of them. When it comes to home window tinting, we understand that your home is your personal living area, and we want to respect your time and space. We strive to fit your tint application seamlessly into your routine, resulting in a quick and stress-free experience. Over the years, mobile tint services have become much more advanced; as they say, experience truly is the best teacher. There is no need to be concerned about quality of workmanship; our professional mobile tint team is well-experienced and love nothing more than providing top-shelf results for our clients!

Tinted windows are also a great choice for enhancing your privacy whether it be for your vehicle, home or commercial space. Nobody wants to deal with prying eyes or a theft risk. Particularly when it comes to sensitive objects or information, sometimes the more inconspicuous, the better. Being comfortable in your space is highly important, and being able to go your own way without worrying about other people is a luxury that can be easy to take for granted. With many different privacy tint options to choose from, our customisable Sunshine Coast window tinting will ensure that your privacy is maintained, your way.

Windows are also commonly tinted for their increased looks in the aesthetics department. There’s no denying that darkened windows add a certain amount of sleekness to your asset, and offer a level of reflection that comes with higher-contrast, darkened glass. Window tinting is especially popular in the automotive industry for these reasons. There’s also a certain level of mystique that comes with tinted window film. After all, nobody wants to be driving around in what feels like a fish bowl! You may even see an increase in resale value from having window tint applied to your asset. Our quality tints ensure that you will be able to enjoy the value that they provide for a long time, as well as for the next owner.

Give our friendly team a call today and let us see what we can do to help you with your tinting requirements. We’re excited to work with you.

What Is the Process for Window Tint Application?

Our process starts with an initial quote and consultation to find out your exact tinting preferences and budget. Once we are able to find an option that best suits your needs, we’ll book in a date and time with you. Whether it be for home window tinting or car window tinting, the application process is largely the same. When we arrive, we begin by first preparing the windows. This involves a thorough clean to ensure that no loose dirt, debris or grime is present when applying the window film. Improper preparation may compromise the finish and even the smallest bit of lint or debris may cause the tint to not adhere properly to the glass. Correct preparation is key to a proper and lasting job!

Once the windows are prepped, we will measure and trim the window film to size to ensure it is a proper fit. A final, 100% exact trim would still be required at the end of the installation, but we want to get a close initial measurement now so that there is no wastage of film and that the focus can be towards aligning the film to the glass for correct adhesion. For cars and some homes where needed, we typically measure this by setting the film to the outside glass for a “test” fit, then trimming to size.

Next is the installation process for the interior. We use moisture to set the film to the inside glass, and heat from the outside to radiate through and make the film malleable. Heating the film from the inside can be too intense for the film and can warp it or cause it to melt. We also use squeegees to force all of the moisture and air bubbles out, leaving a clean, tidy finish with zero residue.

Once the film has adhered to the glass, we will trim off the final excess and give a final inspection to ensure our standards of quality are met. And that’s a job done! The curing process is the final and most crucial stage to ensure maximum longevity. We recommend leaving the tinted glass alone for at least 3-4 days. Certain environmental factors such as humidity and temperature may affect the curing time. Generally, warmer weather can increase the curing time, while cooler weather can slow it down. The ideal temperature range for most effective curing is between 21 - 32 degrees Celsius. Do not get the film wet during this time, as water can interfere with the adhesion and cause issues down the line. We recommend not washing your car and rolling down the windows down during this time to prevent any interference.

How Do I Look After My Tint?

When it comes to long-term window tint maintenance, the process is simple. Avoid using both harsh and ammonia-based cleaners on window tint film, as these can scratch and degrade the quality of the film prematurely. Care should be taken to use soft, microfibre cloths that won’t scratch the glass. We’ve seen brand new cars with scratches and swirls on their outer glass, caused by excessive and aggressive cleaning methods by dealerships. Using soft, tint-friendly materials to clean your glass with will help ensure its longevity and condition.

Avoid overexposing your tint to high temperatures and too much sunlight, as this can also degrade the quality of the tint much faster than it should. Remember, our tints are high quality, but no tint is invincible. Proactive steps such as parking in shaded areas, or setting up shade spots to shield excessive UV exposure, will help extend the life of your window tint exponentially. It’s all in the small, proactive steps that help keep your items in as-new condition, the way they were meant to look.

What Is the Best Car Window Tint?

There are many different types of car window tinting available on the market, but they can be categorised into five main tint types: clear, dyed, metalised, carbon and ceramic. Each tint serves a different purpose and has a different price point, but all share a same aim; to reduce the amount of UV exposure and heat into the cabin of the car, resulting in a much cooler, safer and more comfortable driving experience.

Clear window film aims to be an effective option for consumers who are looking to maintain a factory appearance for their car, while seriously limiting the amount of UV exposure that can be let in, whilst maximising visibility It’s almost like prescription glasses for your car! The main drawback that comes with clear film is that it makes no difference to the appearance of the car, which can be preferred, nor does it improve privacy.

Dyed window film is a budget-friendly tint film that provides entry-level darkened glass and UV protection. These dyed tints contain multiple built-up layers that work together to reject UV exposure. Being dyed, there is the option of colour customisation which can be preferred by some customers. These types of tint can fade and are not typically the most durable when compared to higher-end tints such as carbon film, but have come a long way since their introduction.

Metalised window film contains micro metallic particles that are capable of blocking UV rays while also offering superior heat rejection properties to help keep your interior feeling much cooler. The technology is similar to that in modern metal roofing that causes a certain level of heat to bounce away from it. While metalised window film is quite durable and highly fade-resistant, it can affect radio and phone signal in some cars due to the metallic nature of the film. This is becoming less common however as technology in both window tint and modern devices evolves.

Carbon window film is a more modern type of film that offers a unique matte finish and has excellent heat rejection properties, as well as insulation for car interiors. There are great energy savings to be had with carbon film. Due to its insulating properties, there won’t be as much of a need for the AC during summer, and the heater for winter (here on the Sunshine Coast, winter is usually the lesser of our worries!), which means less fuel burnt and more money back in your pocket.

Ceramic window film is a modern technology in the world of window tinting. It’s a highly versatile and effective film; it’s shade-customisable, highly durable and has excellent glare-control properties to help keep eyes focused on the road. Ceramic window film does not contain metal like its metalised film counterpart, which means there will be no radio or phone signal issues after installation. The main drawback of ceramic film is its price point. It’s certainly not the cheapest, but it is highly effective and durable, which, years down the line, will make all of the difference. It’s worth considering the initial investment for the long-term gain when it comes to semi-permanent window tinting.

What Is the Darkest Legal Car Window Tint in Queensland?

Here in Queensland, we have specific tinting regulations that need to be complied with when it comes to car window tinting. Thankfully, the laws are quite straightforward. At Sunshine Coast Mobile Tinting, all of our supplied window films are 100% compliant with Queensland tinting laws and regulations. Tint levels are measured in the form of VLT, or Visible Light Transmission, with 0% VLT being the darkest tint (opaque), and 100% VLT being the lightest (transparent).

QLD darkest legal tint laws are as follows:

  • - Only the top 10% of the windscreen may be tinted, with no impedance of the wiper blade arch; whichever is the lesser. There are no colour restrictions for the top 10% section, and this law does not apply to clear and transparent glazing and/or UV films.

  • - The front side windows (all windows in front of and to the immediate left and right of the driver) may be tinted to 35% VLT tint.

  • - The rear door windows and rear window may be tinted to 20% VLT tint.

  • - Windows on the interior of the vehicle must have above 70% VLT if factory made, and over 35% VLT if the tint is aftermarket.

    • - Reflective window tint of no more than 10% reflectance is allowed. This is to reduce the amount of tint glare produced from vehicles. Tint bubbling and distortion are also prohibited as they dramatically reduce driver visibility.

      -

An extreme example of window tint bubbles; most often caused by cheap quality tint and poor quality installation.

Yes! We can supply and install the darkest legal window tint on the Sunshine Coast. There’s no denying that dark window film looks amazing, but it’s important to comply with local laws to ensure that you don’t receive an unwanted fine, or even worse, have to take off your newly installed, but illegal, tint.

What Are The Different Types of Window Tint Film?

There are many different types of window tint film, used for different purposes and desired results. The main purposes of each window tint film is to reduce heat, visible light, sun glare, or add strength and/or protection to the glass. The ways that these results are achieved varies between the different types of window tint film and the materials they are made of.

In the automotive world, modern car window tint typically uses one of the following:

- Clear Window Tint Film: Clear film is a popular choice for those who are looking to block the sun’s UV rays from entering the vehicle, while maintaining an OEM, factory appearance. Obviously being clear, it is not an ideal choice for someone looking to increase privacy or to add a darkened look to their vehicle.

- Dyed Window Tint Film: Dyed films are one of the most common types of window tinting. They feature a layer of dye between the adhesive and protective layers. Dyed films are relatively inexpensive and provide good heat and glare reduction. However, they may fade over time and offer less UV protection compared to other types.

- Metalised Window Tint Film: Metalised films incorporate tiny metallic particles into the film's construction, providing excellent heat rejection and glare reduction. They are more durable than dyed films and offer better UV protection. However, although not common, metalised films can interfere with electronic signals such as GPS, radio, and cell phone reception.

- Carbon Window Tint Film: Carbon films contain carbon particles dispersed throughout the film. They offer superior heat rejection, glare reduction, and UV protection without interfering with electronic signals. Carbon films also have a sleek matte finish and are less likely to fade over time compared to dyed films.

- Ceramic Window Tint Film: Ceramic films are the top-tier option in terms of performance and quality. They contain ceramic nanoparticles that provide exceptional heat rejection, glare reduction, and UV protection while maintaining clarity and visibility. Ceramic films are highly durable, scratch-resistant, and do not interfere with electronic signals. However, they tend to be more expensive than other types of tint films.

- Hybrid Window Tint Film: Hybrid films combine two or more technologies, such as dyed and metalized layers, to achieve a balance of performance and cost-effectiveness. They offer decent heat rejection, glare reduction, and UV protection while minimizing interference with electronic signals.

- IR Rejection Window Tint Film: Infrared (IR) rejection films are specifically designed to block infrared rays, which are responsible for much of the heat buildup in vehicles. By targeting IR rays, these films provide superior heat rejection while maintaining high levels of visibility and clarity.

Meanwhile, when it comes to commercial and home window tinting, the following types of window tint films are often featured:

- Solar Control Films: These films are designed to reduce solar heat gain, glare, and UV radiation. They help in maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature and protect furnishings from sun damage.

- Security Films: Security films are thicker and are designed to reinforce glass, making it more resistant to breakage. They help prevent the chances of burglary, forced entry, protect against vandalism, and reduce the risk of injury from shattered glass.

- Decorative Films: Decorative window films come in a variety of patterns, colors, and textures. They are used to enhance privacy, add aesthetic appeal, or create branding opportunities for commercial spaces.

- Privacy Window Films: Privacy films obscure visibility into the building while still allowing light to pass through. They are commonly used in office spaces, conference rooms, and retail establishments to enhance privacy without sacrificing natural light.

- Anti-Graffiti Films: These films are designed to protect glass surfaces from scratches, etching, and graffiti. They provide a sacrificial layer that can be easily removed and replaced, saving on the cost of glass replacement.

- Low-E Films: Low-emissivity (Low-E) films help improve the energy efficiency of windows by reducing heat transfer. They reflect heat back into the building during the winter months and reduce solar heat gain in the summer, resulting in lower heating and cooling costs.

- Reflective Films: Reflective films have a mirrored finish that reflects sunlight and heat away from the building, reducing cooling costs and improving comfort indoors. They also provide privacy during the daytime by making it difficult to see inside from the outside.

- Anti-Glare Films: These films reduce glare from sunlight or artificial lighting, creating a more light-diffused and comfortable environment for building occupants who work on computers or other screens.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Which is a darker tint; 35% or 20%?

The lower the percentage, the darker the tint is. 20% is thus darker than 35% The percentage stands for VLT (Visible Light Percentage), or the amount of light able to be seen through the tint film.

What is the darkest legal car window tint in Queensland?

The darkest legal window tint in Queensland for vehicles is as follows:

- Windscreen: top 10% of the windscreen only

- Front side windows: 35%

- Rear side windows: 20%

- Rear window: 20%

- Reflection allowance of all windows: no more than 10%

How long does it take to tint windows?

Window tinting timeframes can vary, but vehicles can often take between 1.5-3 hours to complete. For a home or commercial space, expect between 1-2 days for a larger and more intensive tint job.

Do window tint films require any sort of special care?

Our window tint films don’t require any special care and can be cleaned with regular household cleaners. We do however recommend being careful with use of ammonia-based cleaners as these can cause the window tint to wear prematurely. Care should also be taken to not use overly abrasive or aggressive scouring pads or cloths.

Is window tint scratch-resistant?

Yes, all of our window tint films are scratch-resistant, for general wear and tear or cleaning. However, care must still be taken to ensure that the tint film is not treated roughly and not cleaned aggressively.

What is the curing process for window tinting?

Since window tint film is applied to the inside of the glass, moisture or rain will not be an issue. However, we do recommend leaving the tint-installed windows closed for up to 3 days to give the moisture between the glass and the tint a chance to fully dry out and the adhesive to seal properly. Failure to do so may result in bubbling or premature window film wear after the curing process is fully completed.
